Bill Weldon, Senior Counsel for Workers Compensation, The Travelers Companies
Bill Weldon is the Senior Counsel for Workers Compensation for The Travelers Companies. He has broad experience in providing representation, resources, education, and support on a variety of issues for workers’ compensation participants, primarily carriers, self-insured employers, and governmental entities. For over twenty years, Bill’s practice has been devoted to representing these entities before the former Texas Workers’ Compensation Commission, the State Office of Administrative Hearings (SOAH), in District and Appellate Courts, and now before the Texas Department of Insurance and Division of Workers’ Compensation. He has contributed to appeals in the Texas Courts of Appeals, the Texas Supreme Court, and the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. Bill’s current primary responsibilities include Travelers’ Designated Austin Representative to the Division of Workers’ Compensation, representation at stakeholder meetings and industry groups, adjuster training, medical dispute resolution, compliance oversight, and monitoring legislation and significant legal issues for Travelers. In addition, Mr. Weldon is chairman of the Insurance Council of Texas Workers Compensation Committee, and speaks to adjusters, employers, and other system participants on a broad range of workers’ compensation issues.
A native of Austin, Mr. Weldon received his Bachelor of Arts in Plan II Honors in 1994 from the University of Texas at Austin. He attended Baylor University School of Law, obtaining his Juris Doctorate and license to practice law in 1997. Mr. Weldon is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Workers’ Compensation Law Section of the State Bar, the United States Supreme Court Bar, and is Board Certified in Workers’ Compensation Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. His previous experience practicing law with workers compensation defense firms and as director of medical disputes and compliance for a third-party administrator in Austin bring a well-rounded perspective on the Texas workers compensation system.
He lives in Austin with his wife Hannah and a varying menagerie of Italian Greyhound rescues.
